KNOPP FERRO | Tollhaus

Der Titel »Tollhaus« greift den Titel einer Videoinstallation des international renommierten Künstlers Knopp Ferro (*1953) aus dem Jahr 1998 auf. Knopp Ferro choreografierte damals mit Hilfe mehrerer Schnecken den völlig entschleunigten Einsturz eines Kartenhauses. »Tollhaus« ist der Auftakt zu einer Reihe verschiedener Ausstellungen weltweit über drei Jahre, die das Werk des Künstlers rund um seinen 70. Geburtstag umfassend dokumentieren.

Die Münchner Ausstellung bei SMUDAJESCHECK vereinigt frühe Werke seiner Kölner Zeit aus Eisen (Ferro!), die zum Kosmos des Fluxus gehören, mit aktuellen grazilen Raumzeichnungen, die sich an einem Punkt aufgehängt fein ausbalanciert sanft bewegen oder beinahe unwirklich dünn auf Sockeln aufrecht stehen. Während seine frühen Werke aus der Fluxus Zeit als eher schrille Gesellschaftskritik gelesen werden können, hat Knopp Ferro über die Jahrzehnte eine Kunstform entwickelt, die unaufdringlich und dennoch entschieden Schönheit und Statement mit minimalistischem Materialeinsatz verbindet. SMUDAJESCHECK zeigt außer Skulpturen und Objekten das historische Video »Tollhaus« sowie eine Fülle von Zeichnungen und Fotografien, u.a. aus seiner Zeit aus New York und Sao Paulo, die noch nie oder schon lange nicht mehr zu sehen waren.

Im MKK, Museum für Konkrete Kunst, Ingolstadt ist übrigens die neueste Raumzeichnung von Knopp Ferro, das über zwei Geschosse hängende „Linienschiff Zero 23:17“ zu sehen (MKK Ingolstadt  »Hängepartie — Kunst mit offenem Ende » 16.01. — 01.05.22).

The title »Tollhaus« takes up the title of a video installation by the internationally renowned artist Knopp Ferro (*1953) from 1998. Back then, Knopp Ferro choreographed the completely decelerated collapse of a house of cards with the help of several snails. “Tollhaus” is the prelude to a series of different exhibitions around the world over three years, which comprehensively document the work of the artist around his 70th birthday.

The Munich exhibition at SMUDAJESCHECK combines early works from his Cologne time made of iron (Ferro!), which belong to the cosmos of Fluxus, with current, delicate room drawings that are suspended in a finely balanced manner and move gently on a point or stand upright on pedestals, almost unreally thin. While his early works from the Fluxus era can be read as rather shrill social criticism, Knopp Ferro has developed an art form over the decades that unobtrusively yet resolutely combines beauty and statement with minimalist use of materials. In addition to sculptures and objects, SMUDAJESCHECK shows the historical video »Tollhaus« as well as an abundance of drawings and photographs, including from his time in New York and Sao Paulo, which have never been seen or have not been seen for a long time (OPENING 1/20, 12 – 6pm)
